what is the difference between contusion and ecchymosis ?

Bruise is a superficial injury that can occur due to impact without slash whereas Contusion is an injury of a part without a break in the skin. Ecchymosis is a hemorrhagic spot in the skin that results in non-elevated, rounded or uneven, purplish patch. Bruise and contusion are quite similar, and are often used interchangeably.

Bruise and contusion are each taken as a result of injury. They have been used to explain minor hemorrhage within tissue, where traumatized blood vessels leak blood into the interstitial space. Usually, blood vessels are also injured within skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscle, or bone. These are some of the key differences.
