The problem of high blood pressure is a grave concern during pregnancy. The incidence of high blood pressure is common in women who have chronic hypertension. Chronic hypertension is defined as high blood pressure that is already present before pregnancy.

Chronic hypertension also includes high blood pressure which can occur before 20 weeks of pregnancy, or lasts for longer than 4 months after giving birth. The beginning of high blood pressure during pregnancy can be an indication of preeclampsia. But both the problems are different. It is important to treat high blood pressure at right time as it can become worse.
