Type 1 diabetes gradually develops completely but the symptoms may seem to come on suddenly. If one notices that he or his child have the following symptoms, seek immediate medical assistance.

When less amount of insulin in the body, blood glucose levels start rising rapidly, and these symptoms can rapidly develop:

  • Extreme tiredness or weakness
  • Extreme dehydration
  • Increased urination
  • Pain in the abdomen
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Blurry vision
  • Wounds that don’t heal well
  • Irritability or quick mood changes
  • Changes due to start or pause of menstruation
  • Weight loss—despite eating sufficient
  • Rapid heart beats
  • Reduced blood pressure
  • Low body temperature
